Thanks. To make MySQL start again I just had to delete ib_logfile0 and ib_logfile1 in mysql/data.
Is it possible to "freeze" a WP installation (similar to software versioning or the history list in many applications) in different stages so that in case of an error I can simply go back to a previous version?
